Privacy Policy
Elbows is an app that sends one question a day to a family. This policy explains what information Elbows collects, why, who can see it, and the choices you have. We wrote it to be read, not skimmed past.
The short version
- Your answers are seen only by the people in your family on Elbows. They are never public.
- We don’t sell your information, show ads, or use advertising trackers.
- Your birth year is used only to check that you’re 13 or older. It’s never shown to anyone, and ages are never displayed.
- You can delete your account, and everything you’ve posted, inside the app at any time.
Who we are
Elbows is made by Kopitzke Creative, LLC, a Wisconsin limited liability company (“we,” “us”). You can reach us at hello@elbowsapp.com.
Information you give us
- Account: your email address and password, or the sign-in details Apple or Google share with us if you sign in with them. Passwords are stored in scrambled (hashed) form; we can’t read them.
- Profile: your first name, birthday (month, day and year), and an optional photo.
- For each family you’re in: your role (for example Mom, Son, or a role in your own words) and the color you picked.
- What you share: your answers (text and optional photos), Sunday poll votes, Guess Who guesses, reactions, replies, and any questions you write for “Your Turn to Ask.”
- Families you create: the family name, the question types and daily time you choose, and your time zone.
Information collected automatically
- Notification token: if you allow notifications, a code from Apple or Google that lets us send pushes to your phone, and whether the phone is an iPhone or Android.
- Activity in the app: things like which days you answered (for streaks) and which notifications you’ve seen.
- Subscription status: whether you have a free trial or paid plan and when it renews. Payments are handled entirely by Apple or Google; we never see or store your card details.
- Basic technical logs kept by our service providers to run and secure the service (for example, the time of a request and an IP address).
Elbows does not use advertising, ad tracking, or third-party analytics, and doesn’t track you across other apps or websites.
How we use it
- To run Elbows: pick each day’s question, show answers to your family, keep streaks, and celebrate birthdays.
- To send the notifications you’ve turned on (you can switch each kind off in the app).
- To manage subscriptions and free trials, including a reminder 2 days before a trial ends.
- To keep Elbows safe and working, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
- To answer you when you contact us.
We use your birth year only to confirm you’re at least 13 (and, for the “Ask to become admin” feature, whether you’re 16 or older). Your birthday month and day are used for birthday questions and alerts in your families.
Who can see what
- Your family: people in the same Elbows family see your first name, role, color, photo, birthday (month and day only), and what you share there. Answers stay hidden from each person until they’ve posted their own answer that day. Nothing is shared between different families.
- Family admins can change family settings and remove members. When someone is removed, their past answers are hidden from the family; if an admin chooses “keep their answers as memories,” their past answers stay visible to the family.
- Before you join: anyone who enters a family’s code sees the family name and the first names, roles and colors of its members, so they know they found the right family.
- No one else: Elbows has no public profiles or public posts.
Service providers
We use a small number of companies to run Elbows. They process information only on our behalf and under their own security and privacy commitments:
- Supabase stores accounts, family data, answers and photos (on servers in the United States).
- Expo delivers push notifications to Apple and Google.
- Apple and Google handle app downloads, sign-in (if you choose it), push notifications and payments.
- RevenueCat tracks subscription status for us.
- [Email provider] sends sign-in and account emails.
We don’t sell or rent personal information, and we don’t share it for advertising. We may disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone’s safety, or as part of a sale or merger of the business (in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information).
How long we keep it
- We keep your information while your account is open.
- Deleting your account (Settings → Delete my account) permanently deletes your profile, photo, and everything you’ve posted in every family, right away.
- Deleted families can be restored by an admin for 30 days, then are permanently deleted, including photos.
- Leaving or being removed from a family hides your answers there; they’re kept so an admin can bring you back. Deleting your account removes them permanently.
- Our providers may keep backup copies for a limited time before they are overwritten. [Confirm backup retention period.]
Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile, role, color and photo at any time in the app.
- Edit your answers, and turn each kind of notification on or off.
- Leave a family, or delete your account and all your content.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct or delete it, by writing to hello@elbowsapp.com. Depending on where you live (for example California or the European Union), you may have additional rights, and we’ll honor them.
Children and teens
Elbows is for people 13 and older. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13; the app checks age at sign-up. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we’ll delete it. [Lawyer: confirm requirements for teens 13–15 in regions with a higher age of digital consent, such as parts of the EU.]
Security
Information is encrypted in transit, photos are stored privately, and our database rules make sure each person can see only their own families. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects you, as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we’ll let you know in the app before they take effect. The date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
